How does CoreView calculate the last usage time for Exchange Online?

Post by Sharon Breeze »

Q: It seems that timestamps of for example EXO usage is not accurate in terms of hours and minutes? Is this normal behaviour and can we do anything to improve this behaviour?

A: We don't rely on the LastLogon reported by Microsoft as is not reliable (FYI https://petri.com/get-mailboxstatistics-cmdlet-wrong) and it cannot be used to determine if a mailbox is really used by the owner of the mailbox or simply by Microsoft internal systems or other actors.

To retrieve the Last Activity Date for Exchange we rely on Exchange Usage Reports retrieved through Graph and available on the Microsoft Portal under the reports area. If you check the date the one in CoreView is the same as the one in the M365 report that you can find at this link: https://admin.microsoft.com/Adminportal ... ilActivity

The time stamp is not available in this report that's why you don't see the exact hours and minutes in CoreView.
